A rapidly growing world population increases the need for food, and therefore, production awareness – aiming at a much higher yield of quality product – is becoming widespread all over the world. It is also important that the foods produced are not harmful to human health or the ecosystem, and that they are produced according to scientific principles, as well as producing sufficient food. Ecological (organic) agriculture is a form of controlled and certified agricultural production process applied at every stage from production to consumption, through the use of inputs that are permitted by a framework of regulations, and without the use of chemicals or medicines.

The "Organic Agriculture" program has been initiated with quotas of 30 students starting from the 2009 to 2010 academic year and runs under the control of the Vocational and Animal Production Department of our university. It has the aim of meeting the needs of technical staff operating in the rapidly developing organic agriculture sector in our country and throughout the world, and training "Organic Farming Technicians" who have the technical know-how and knowledge of the use of new technologies.

The students, in our 650 m2 fully automated application facility – with geothermal heating and 15 fruit and 50 vegetable gardens by the Hirfanlı Dam lakeshore – can cultivate all the plants suitable for the area’s ecology, and all the theoretical information given in the program is transferred into practical applications at these facilities.

Those who successfully complete the Vocational Program of Organic Agriculture may transfer to the Agricultural Graduate School of Bachelor programs if they are successful in the transfer examination (DGS) undertaken by OSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center).

After graduation, the graduates can work in the following areas: provincial and district directorates of agriculture affiliated to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock; organic farming enterprises; organic markets; private sector organizations that can provide organic production input (seed, organic fertilizer, organic agricultural problems) and moderately sized agricultural-based industries and SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) . They can also farm organically by establishing their own businesses.
